intelligence who??

I have often wondered what about the definition of intelligence. Intelligence has been defined in many different ways including, but not limited to, abstract thought, understanding, self-awareness, communication, reasoning, learning, having emotional knowledge, retaining, planning, and problem solving…

But now I have to think about a few people in my life, brilliant philosophers being really bad at problem solving … Kathy that works in our house that has amazing emotional knowledge, problem solving and reasoning but ….is illiterate. Brilliant professors that lack any form of humor…it seems to be so relative.

What about wisdom? What is the definition and is it linked to intelligence …wisdom is: 

1.the ability or result of an ability to think and act utilizing knowledge, experience, understanding, common sense, and insight

2. accumulated knowledge, erudition, or enlightenment

“I'll let you know when I meet an Intelligent person”

"Nor am I asking about "adopting" the preplanned methods which give the appearance of intelligence"

What else is intelligence than the appearance of intelligence? Are we really fair judges of our own intelligence? If not, then who are we to judge another’s intelligence as anything more than an appearance?

I see intelligence as a subjective description someone gives to another person when they're impressed or intimidated by what they've said. I find that people who claim to be intelligent are more often than not just clever with words, and lacking in substance. I try to remind myself of that anytime I get impressed or intimidated by my own thought processes, although it's much easier to just talk myself into thinking how intelligent I must be….

But to the point I am all for the development of intelligence to the extent that your brain bursts but even more so for wisdom… somehow wisdom has more depth to it.

The bible says in Proverbs 1:7: the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. What does fear mean? In my experience it is decreasing of ourselves and increase of Christ because we know we are not able to comply or even remotely adequate. It is a dependency on Christ and his sufficient strength and not our intelligence or capability.

Yes we need to use our brain in order to comprehend things but thank the Lord for His marvelous Spirit which makes things that I have no understanding of , clear and life.  My prayer is that my knowledge and wisdom of Christ may increase and I might realize my moment by moment dependency on Him and not on my own understanding…

Prov. 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths...
